Happy New Year!
I know that in the UK it might seem a bit late to say that but in France, the whole month of January is for wishing good things for the year. I therefore wish you lots of lovely travels filled with delicious moments with your loved ones.
I am not a big fan of new year’s resolutions. Instead, I prefer to choose a guiding word for the year. For 2024, it’ll be “renouveau” - renewal in English although it’s not as meaninful in English as “renouveau” is in French. I am keen to do some things differently and to bring new energy in my life. Whether it’s with a new role, another base in France, a new hobby, a new outlook on life, I’m not sure what it’ll be but I’ll be seeking it!
As traditional at the start of the year, and exclusively before I publish it on the blog. I share with you my list of new hotels planned to open in 2024 in a section below. I’ve been doing it for 9 years now, I started in 2015!
This year there are 41 new hotels with pools. I only list those that have a smaller number of rooms. For those of you who kindly support me via a paid subscription, I also share 23 hotels without pool and 10 bigger luxury hotels to keep an eye on. Scroll down towards the end of the newsletter.
I hope you had a restful break over the festive season. This is one of my favourite holidy as even if it often starts very busy with lots of meals and meetups and family reunions, it always ends with a peaceful time relaxing somewhere. I share where we spend some of those hibernation days below.

A festive break at Heckfield Place
Every year we try to go to the countryside between Christmas and New Year to recharge and review the year. This year we loved our stay at Heckfield because
- it’s only 1h15 from our house and yet you feel in a peaceful bubble
- fireplaces with fire everywhere!
- stunning dried flowers compositions
- complementary afternoon tea with cake while reading in the deep sofas is just bliss
- beautiful rooms as always
- the spa - which I showed you in July - is actually more suited to winter. The fire and lights add warmth to the otherwise elegant but quite spared back look
- you have to have a treatment. Like the first time, this was top class. And the deep chairs you sink into with a cup of herbal tea and a warm scented candle after are heaven!
- food is great for vegetarians. Our preference goes to Hearth over Marle for diner though.
- great cocktails at the somber bar in the evening and they had some special festive ones.
2 nights was the perfect duration. Go in Jan or Feb, prices will be cheaper and most of the above will still be there for you to enjoy.

Throughout the year, I keep an eye on all new announcements and start building this list. Then I review it, polish it, check the hotels opened and that they still fit the criteria.

Hotels without a pool
My kind supporting subscribers can get an additional list of 23 hotels that will open in 2024 but that don’t have a pool. With the growing environment focus, there are also trains and boats that look quite exciting.
I also list 10 bigger hotels that could have some appeal due to their style or location.
