What is this Substack thing and should I be on it?
My own take on Substack as a platform for creating an authentic relationship and an invitation to join Notes, their latest product.
For some of you, Substack is nothing new and therefore you can definitely skip this email!
For the rest of you, I realise that this might not be your thing as you follow me mostly because of the info on stylish hotels but since there are some features of Substack that allows me to hopefully create a better connection with you and provide you with more info, I thought you might like to understand a bit more about Substack.
So this short email is meant to share my explanation of Substack and how you can possibly use it too and to tell you about their new initiative called Notes.
What is Substack and how can you use it?
First of all, I was recently interviewed by Tom Ollerton about my “shiny marketing object” and I talked about Substack. You can listen to the podcast here.
In it, I talk about how the way to build authenticity and develop an audience online is changing and how Substack allows everyone to develop a community around your own interests.
You could actually try it yourself! You don’t need to be a digital expert or a famous writer. Everyone has something to say that could be of interest to many people.
A new social network? Maybe but one that is much more exciting than Twitter, Facebook or Instagram… Join me on Notes
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more.
If like me, you are a bit tired of Instagram, then Notes could possibly be an interesting new place to discover authors, thoughts, books etc..
I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress, short hotel news, London tips, tools and tech or quick questions.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to From the Poolside, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of From the Poolside can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
I hope this was helpful. I’d be happy to help anyone with their Substack too as I’m a geek as I said! So if you want to start one, let me know and it’ll be great to follow your journey.
